Reserve lūʻaus as soon as your lodging is confirmed for Christmas, New Year’s, spring break and summer. For ordinary weeks, book several weeks ahead if you want premium seating, a particular night or a smaller experience such as Feast at Mōkapu.
The One to Skip
Skip any lūʻau requiring a cross-island evening drive when a strong option exists near your hotel. The small differences between good productions rarely justify driving between Wailea and West Maui before and after a long dinner show.
If the decision is based only on price, do not automatically choose the largest or least expensive show. A crowded setup with mediocre seating can make a four-hour evening feel much longer.
What Visitors Get Wrong
- A lūʻau is not the night to judge Maui solely by the food.
- Fire-knife dancing is Samoan, not Native Hawaiian; broader Polynesian productions and Hawaiian-focused lūʻaus are different experiences.
