Itinerary

  1. Paia — No trip to Maui is complete without a trip to Paia, Maui’s coolest little town. Located on the North Shore, Paia started as a plantation town with the opening of Paia Store in 1896 to serve the needs of the multi-cultural plantation workers of Paia Sugar Mill.
  2. Ke'anae Arboretum — Located adjacent to the Pi'ina'au Stream, the Ke'anae Arboretum features terraces built by ancient Hawaiians for cultivating taro, which was a staple of their diet. A paved walkway measuring 0.6 miles runs through the arboretum, showcasing a diverse array of timber, fruit, and ornamental trees from different tropical regions of the world, many of which are labeled with nameplates. With over 150 types of tropical plants, including taro, the arboretum is an excellent spot to observe native flowers and marvel at the vibrant bark of rainbow eucalyptus trees.
  3. Ke‘anae Point — As a visitor to the area, you'll be awestruck by the majestic Ke'anae Peninsula. This impressive finger of newer lava stretches out from the Hana Highway's cliff line for half a mile. Even before reaching the turnout, you'll catch glimpses of this scenic wonder from various lookouts along the way. Ke'anae is a historically significant village that has been cultivating taro for centuries, and today, much of the land is still used for taro lo'i farming. It's remarkable to think that the soil was brought down here basket by basket, but it's true since the area is made up of young lava rock that was created quite recently (in geological terms) during a massive flow from Haleakala.
  4. Pua'a Ka'a State Park — Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside is a charming and lush stop along the Road to Hana on the island of Maui, Hawaii. This wayside, situated in a rainforest setting, offers a serene escape into nature. Visitors are welcomed by dense vegetation, including towering bamboo groves, vibrant tropical flowers, and thick ferns. One of the main attractions at Pua'a Ka'a is the picturesque waterfall and natural pool. The cascading water creates a tranquil ambiance, inviting visitors to cool off in the refreshing pool or simply enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. The area is often dotted with colorful birds and the soothing sounds of nature.
  5. Wai'anapanapa State Park — This stunning beach, located on the eastern coast of Maui, is a result of the gradual erosion of volcanic materials, which has created sand that is black in color. As you explore the beach, you'll be mesmerized by the contrast between the dark sand and the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. The high mineral content of the black sand also gives it a subtle sparkle, making it a breathtaking sight.
  6. Upper Waikani Falls — Experience the breathtaking beauty of Upper Waikani Falls, also known as the Three Bears. This stunning trio of waterfalls cascades gracefully into a serene, emerald pool, surrounded by lush tropical foliage. It's one of the Road to Hana's most picturesque stops and a favorite for photographers. Take in the enchanting views or enjoy the refreshing mist from the falls—this is a perfect spot to connect with the natural beauty of Maui. Whether you stop for a quick photo or spend time soaking up the scenery, Upper Waikani Falls is sure to leave you in awe!
  7. Hana Gold — Discover the magic of chocolate at the Hāna Gold Cacao Plantation, a hidden gem nestled in Hāna's lush landscapes. This family-owned plantation grows and crafts chocolate entirely on-site. Take a guided walk through the cacao trees, learn about the chocolate-making process, and savor rich, handmade samples. It’s a unique and delicious experience that connects you to the land, culture, and flavors of Maui—perfect for chocolate lovers and those seeking a deeper connection with Hāna's natural bounty. A sweet highlight of your journey!
  8. Hana — Shopping, Eating, Exploring... all in town of 782 people! It's incredible!
